High Stakes – a VR reenactment

Being a performer gives me the opportunity to have a new experience with every script. I was delighted to be cast in an on-camera VR project with Point in Time Studios a few months ago in a co-leading role. It was the reenactment of a real incident where a man died as a result of police involvement. The work we created for use in well-produced, immersive virtual reality training could help police officers de-escalate a scene and keep civilians and officers safer. The gravity of our work was never lost on me.

For as intense as our scenes were, our breaks were good decompression time for connecting, conversation and sharing stories (and caffeination tactics) as 4am crept up on us. It’s always interesting to chat with other actors and find out what they’re doing to build upon their skills, where else to find them in the community and to share information to stay in touch. It was such a great night!

The on-set vibe was so accepting and comfortable, and most of the cast and crew had worked together on these types of shoots before. There were so many interesting and genuinely wonderful people I got to work with, both in front of the VR camera and in all the detail-oriented roles behind it. There was a lot of care to make sure that our reenactment scenes as well as all the alternate outcomes all felt respectful of the people who went through the original event. Additional care was taken to ensure everyones safety on set with disarmed weapons and that we were emotionally okay when working through the incredibly intense original scene reenactment.

Being a #voiceactorinthewild on this industrial shoot, I also had to grab a mic selfie.

Thanks to Point in Time for providing the rest of these behind the scenes photos!
